• January 24th at 6:30 pm at the ATCC Auditorium (#743), there will be a free performance by the Mixed Blood Theater Company from Minneapolis. Sponsored by the Diversity Resource Action Alliance, the program is called Daughters of Africa. It's sure to be a great event, so don't miss it!
• January 25th at 1 PM at the Runestone Museum is another event to get on your calendar now. The Museum Foundation is sponsoring "Speakers at the Museum: Marie Koenigs, Part Ojibway". Koenigs is a retired teacher from Benson. She will speeak about her family's Ojibwway heritage and plans to bring along beaded items and other things made by her mother and grandmother. The event is free for Museum members and there is a small fee for non-members.
• February will mark the 2nd annual One Community, One Book event for Alexandria. The book that has been selected by the committee this year is Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried and several area book clubs have decided to read the book during January or February. There will be four public events relating to the book and we encourage you to participate! The Friends of the Library purchased 50 copies of the book for use by interested readers and they can be picked up at the library. If you'd like to have your own copy to read on your own schedule, we have plenty available in the store now.
• Don't forget to check out our sale books; there are some good finds in that area. We've recently added a large number of hard cover children's books at 50% off too—nice for gift giving or Jingle Bells donations.
