Abercrombie Trail

Pequot Lakes Author Candace Simar

Pequot Lakes, Minnesota author Candace Simar will be at Cherry Street Books for a book signing on Wednesday August 11th from 1 - 3 PM .

Simar's novels, Abercrombie Trail and Pomme De Terre are historic fiction and have relevance to this area of the state. She has special interest in Minnesota history and the experiences of 19th Century immigrants on the Great Plains.

A reviewer said of Abercrombie Trail, "........Simar's first-rate debut novel beautifully captures the wild unpredictability of nineteenth-century immigrant life."

A vivacious and interesting woman, Simar has published writings in other books, magazines and on-line publications. Her great-grandfather was a stage coach driver from St. Cloud to Fort Abercrombie in the late 1860's, so some of her research came directly from family stories.

Author/Illustrator, Don Houseman

Saturday August 21st 10 AM until Noon

A repeat visit from author/illustrator, Don Houseman, will be a special treat for our Saturday morning story time on August 21st at 10 AM.

Houseman's second book about Harvey (a horse) is called Harvey and His Friends' Great Fishing Adventure. His stories and unique pen & ink illustrations are delightful and those who were here when he read his earlier book, How Harvery and His Friends Saved the Barn, really enjoyed it. A replica of "Harvey" will be joining him on this visit and the kids will enjoy donning a cowboy hat and having their pictures taken with him. Bring the kids in for a truly special time on the 21st!

The Last Hunter

Author Will Weaver

Thursday October 21st 1 - 2:30 PM

Author Will Weaver will be in town on Thursday October 21st and will visit and speak at several locations. His first stop will be at our store from 1 - 2:30 PM. Weaver has a new book coming out in mid-September entitled The Last Hunter. I read and loved his novel Red Earth, White Earth when it was published back in the late 80's, but since then, most of his writing has been for young adults. He has finally returned to writing for adults with this latest book and I'm eager to get my hands on a copy!

Weaver is a resident of the Bemidji area and teaches part time at the college there. His writing has made him a prominent name nationwide and we are so pleased to have him coming to Alexandria. Following his stop at Cherry Street Books, he will speak to the Senior College afternoon session at the ATC and then at the Douglas County Public Library in the evening. Watch for more details to come and be sure you get a chance to meet him. We'll have his new book in the store as soon as it becomes available.
